Neta’s Foundation provides educational opportunities and empowerment to underprivileged girls and young women in Africa, especially those in Ethiopia and South Sudan. Neta’s Foundation currently provides scholarships that cover tuition and other education-related expenses to 14 students. The goal is to continue to support education by providing scholarships to more students and one day build a school.
According to UNICEF the right of education has been denied to many girls across the world, especially in Africa. Poverty coupled with social norms such us child marriage continue to prevent girls from realizing the basic human right to education. In many parts of Africa the enrollment rate of girls in primary (elementary) schools is lower than that of boys, and in secondary schools (high school) the rate is even lower.
Most African girls are denied their right of education. Girls inability to realise this right has profound effects on their ability to realise their other social, political and economic right. Girls education is a critical development issue both because of its inherent value to individual girls, and for its wider societal benefits.
